Provoking #3
Violence is a huge problem in this country since it was founded in 1776. There have been many wars in the history of the United States some have been provoked by other countries and other wars have been provoked by the U.S. The United States was provoked by Japan on December 7, 1941 when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The bombing of Pearl Harbor lead to the United States entering WWII. I think if someone is provoked they should not have the consequences of an un-provoked attacker.
When I was in 7th grade a classmate was talking badly about me behind my back in gym class. After class we went into the locker room he started saying it to my face and pushing me and shoving me and that’s how the fight started. After the fight we were sent to the principal’s office and our punishments were handed out. I got a lesser punishment than the other classmate because I was provoked. I can relate to Peter this way but I didn’t take as much of an extreme action as he did. I also wasn’t bullied my whole life like he was.
I think that if a student is provoked he should have the right to fight back to some degree. If the kid that is teased throws a couple of punches he shouldn’t have as much of a severe punishment as the bully. If the victim shoots up a bunch of kids that is taking the matter over the edge, instead he should try to receive help from a professional.
I feel that I have a responsibility to intervene when peers are getting made fun of. I don’t like when bullying goes on in school because even though there are teachers around and cameras in the halls nobody catches up on what happens in the locker rooms. If a teacher tries to intervene the kid will be made fun of even more because he is a “snitch” or a “tattletale.” If another student intervenes then others might catch on to the act of kindness and gang up on the bully. That is what I think about bullying in schools.
