Is popularity more important than anything else… dying of thirst? What is the difference between being popular and belonging to the group? Can everyone be popular?
Of course popularity is not the most important thing in the world, life for example is more important then popularity. If you’re dead and popular, then there is no point because you don’t know that you are popular, you’re dead. Also another thing more important then popularity is true friends… ones that won’t make fun of you or what you are wearing.
Another thing is, you can be the most popular girl in school, yet the most hated. Popular girls are always the most likely to have rumors spread about them. Instead the ones that are wall flowers so to say, are ones that have maybe one or two rumors spread for a couple of years, and usually those rumors are about them being quite and help back to just themselves and their close friends. I don’t know about you but when people talk behind my back I always find out, and I tell them that I would rather them tell me to my face then them go behind my back and tell others.
Someone once said to me, “It better to have a few good friends that will be there for you no matter what, threw thick and thin, then have a million friends that will never even think about helping you unless they get some benefit out of it”. I now realize that this is the most valuable thing that anyone has ever said and it is completely true, to have 2 amazing friends that you would do anything for and they could do anything for you too is way more valuable then being popular and having many “friends”.
“Popular kids didn’t really have friends. They had alliances. You were safe only as long as you hid your trust. At any moment someone might make you the laughing stock, because then they knew no one was laughing at them.” This quote proves what I am trying to say, and I didn’t even write it. This shows popular kids are just popular by their own standards. If you have a group of friends, even if you aren’t the popular group in school you are still popular, everyone has some role in the group that the popular kids had made a name for.
IE:
“Jock”: The ones in the group that no one will mess with and is afraid to make fun of their friends while they are around.
“Cheer leaders”: The ones in the group that will be there to help the other throw what ever the others need and always there to offer advice.
“Class president”: The ones that make sue that everything is in order, making use the members of the group aren’t fighting amongst themselves and help set up plans for outside of school.
And
“Class clown”: the ones who can always make you laugh, even when you are in the worst of moods.
“Popularity –Regarded with favor, approval, or affection by people.” This proves that anyone can be popular. Popularity is just being approved of and as long as you have one true friend, you can be the most popular kid in school.
