A lot of people think that being popular means everything. They are constantly competing with other kids about the clothes they wear, the purses they carry and the cars they drive. Some people waste so much energy trying to be something there not. You shouldn't have to change who you are to fit in with a group of people. I think that every person can find a group of friends they can be comfortable around without having to change how they act or dress. Being yourself is the most important thing even if the "popular crowd" doesn't except you.
The most typical "popular crowd" usually includes the jocks and the prettiest girls in school. They don't accept anyone that doesn't meet their standards and they think they rule everyone in school. To some kids they might also be known as the biggest bullies in school. If something about you stands out that they don't like, more then likely they will pick on you for it. Peter Houghton was picked on everyday since kindergarten from the "popular crowd" no one accepted him for who he was.
The difference between being popular and belonging to a group is when you belong to a group your friends accept you for who are and you don’t have to change and act a certain way for them to like you. Being popular you have to maintain your reputation and one wrong move will leave you stranded. Your friends will turn on you anytime if you do anything to make them look bad. When Josie tried to stick up for Peter in Nineteen Minutes her “popular” friends began to make fun of her just because she was trying to be a good person and help out an old friend.
I would personally rather belong to a group of friends i know i can trust and will accept me for who i am. I can act however i want without having people constantly juding me and watching my every move. I wouldn't have to worry about having a new group of friends every other week. I think that everyone can be popular in their own ways.
