A parent of a high school student should tell their child to toughen up for the real world outside the school walls. But if their child is being harassed daily for no apparent reason then they should really listen to what the child says and take action. Parents who constantly ignore the problem are doing more damage than those who tell their child to ignore the harassment. Students who are shy and don’t integrate easily into social groups should toughen up. In the outside world those who don’t become stronger will fail. If a child is having trouble with bullies, it is the responsibility of an adult to step in.
In Nineteen minutes Peter doesn’t stick up for himself, he just takes the harassment. That is an example of a person suffering from harassment that needs to toughen up. A child like Peter should learn to fight back against these other students, not using weapons but intellectual words to control their actions and save their own mental stability. In the real world outside school walls isn’t fair nor safe. He should have learned to control his actions in a more professional way and learn from the bullies around him.
Parents that don’t involve themselves in their children’s lives will see problems in the future. They should question their child about their school day and also call up the school to see if they have had any disciplinary problems in the past. Children who suffer at home and at school are the type of children that will provoke or commit acts of violence. So, parents should be aware of what goes on in the school environment and take action.
In schools there are different groups and cliques of people. Those who don’t categorize into one of these groups should become more assertive. They should find maybe a common hobby to keep themselves away from the daily harassment.
Parents should become more responsible for their children and make sure they live a healthy lifestyle. Those who ignore the problem are the ones who will feel and see the effects it has on their child.
