The monkey king is unhappy with who he is because everyone underestimates him. He was not invited because he was not wearing any shoes and he was a monkey. So he trains himself and masters all these different powers to become something greater than a monkey, but some sort of deity. but he never realized all the good things about being a monkey.
jin wang is unhappy with who he is because everyone prejudges him because he's chinese. everyone thinks that he eats dogs and that he moved from china even though he lived in san francisco before he moved. and he still wants to fit in with american kids.
danny is unhappy with who he is because his cousin chin-kee has always ruins his high school experience. every year since 7th grade he visits for two weeks. he is like a total personification of the chinese stereotype and it keeps annoying danny and "ruining his life".

Is the Monkey King underestimated or simply rejected because he is a monkey. At first you do not characterize the problem correctly, but at the end of the first paragraph you are right on target. ("he never realized all the good things about being a monkey" Your comments about Jin Wang and Danny are accurate. Please use correct mechanics when you write on the message board, Chris.
I am glad you enjoyed the book.
