A lot of people in this classroom probably think that this topic doesn't apply to them because they play sports, and there right. Not everyone thinks music is important. But it is more important than you think. But if everyone doesn't think music is all that great then why not cut it so we can have a bigger budget for sports?
Well if music is cut in schools and no one learns music then there will be no one to sing or play guitar or drums. No on will make any sort of band and there won't be any new songs on the radio. Oh okay well thats not that bad. I can live without listening to music. Thats thats where your wrong. You may be able to live without hearing your favorite song on the radio but what about music for television. Background music plays a big role in movies and TV shows. You may not notice it but every time you watch a scary movie the music is what makes you on the edge of your seat waiting for the slasher to break through the window.
Reason two not to cut music programs in schools is that music is proven to make you smarter. Learning a musical instrument and understanding how to play it improves your grades in school. Children with ADD that learn an instrument have better concentration in school and other things. Doctors also say playing instruments relieve stress.
Reason three not to drop music in schools is that it gives kids that can't play sports something to do. No everyone likes sports or can play them. Kids with asthma are more likely to play an instrument than go out for track. Also kids that are physically unable to run or walk can learn an instrument. Kids who play instruments are also less likely to be in gangs or into drugs. Being able to play an instrument give kids something to do after school and during it.
Learning and playing an instrument is a great experience and everyone should try it out. it could be the trumpet or the harmonica, the guitar or the accordion. Instruments are great and kids should take advantage of the music program we have at shore. Now I know not everyone in the class is going to go rush and learn how to play an instrument, but I hope I have convinced you that music is important and should not be taken away from the school.
