I intend to prove that the driving age in New Jersey should be lowered to the age of sixteen. It has been proven that "kids" have been maturing faster and faster, and that the average kid has fully matured by the age of thirteen. So, if thirteen year olds are already mature and can be responsible on the road, why make them wait an entire four more years just to be able to drive around themselves and be independent. Rather than, making their parents personal taxicab drivers?
First of all, New Jersey is the only state in the United States with the law being that you can recieve your restricted driver's license at the age of seventeen. If the rest of the United States have been getting their license before the age of seventeen for years and there has been no problem enough for them to change it, what would the big deal of New Jersey doing the same?
Like I had already previously mentioned, kids make their parents drive them everywhere. Changing this driving age would not only give the parents a break it would allow these teenagers to become independent and stop leaching off of their parents or any other driver they could find that would be willing to accomodate them.
Teenagers should be trusted. They should be aloud to drive to and from school by themselves and drive to the mall by themselves and drive anywhere they need to get by themselves! It is ridiculous the way that teenagers of New Jersey are being babied. All they are asking for is a little independence at an earlier age, and I personally do not see why we cannot grant that to them.
According to wikipedia.com, "Learner must reach age 17 and have had permit for six months. No driving between 12:01 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. or driving with more than one, non family member under 18 for one year or until age 21, whichever is sooner." Now, that seems like a lot of restrictions once you recieve your license and a lot of work even prior to recieveing your license. New Jersey teenagers are willing to accept all of those restrictions and that work, all they are asking for it all to be played out twelve months earlier than it it is right now.
