Beauty is defined as something beautiful in nature, something extraordinary, and something excellent of its kind. When children are competing against their own special beauty it does not seem accurate. They are dressed up in evening gowns and designer jeans. They put on fake eyelashes, eyeliner, and lipstick. Why do this if beauty is something beautiful in nature? Everyone has their own natural beauty and should not be judged on anything of any sort. Even though people have different methods to make them feel confident, but beauty pageants are wrong for children and should not be allowed.
Beauty pageants were first brought out because of hotel owners wanting their guests to stay longer. They came up with the idea and it evolved into Miss America. Beauty pageants give woman the chance for scholarships and to give themselves confidence, but for children? No young girl needs to have confidence at such young ages. Who do they need to impress when they are only six years old? It may help them in the long-run, which is one thing that many people understand, but that could be helped by many other things. If it is so desired, they may compete in a beauty pageant when they have become a teen, but to be a child and compete for such a thing shall be non-sense.
Not every person can be as beautiful or talented as they may like, but every person has there own definition of beauty. There are things that children should be doing at such a young age. They should be playing with their little play dates at the playground or the dirt. Once you get to a certain age, these activities are childish and nasty. Hey, if you can pull it off at a certain time, you mine as well do it before you look silly. Parents may think that this is what it best for the child, giving them strength and confidence, but it really going to hurt your child in the end.
Many look at magazines and the television and media for their beauty, but really they can find it in themselves. Celebrities don’t achieve that beauty on their own. Some may actually suffer from health issues such as Bulimia, Anorexia, and Depression. Beauty pageants show some children, if they aren’t “pretty enough”, that they can be if they do certain routines. Also, children that participate in beauty pageants suffer from jealousy and envy if they cannot live up to the standards of others.
As you can see, even though you are thinking it may be best for your child to take part in a beauty pageant, it may actually hurt them in the end. Children can have many issues coming to them in the future if they get too caught up in the real world of beauty pageants. They may actually look at the pageant as a true competition to be the prettiest and the most talented. These children will look past the accurate definition of beauty, to be something beautiful in nature or extraordinary and excellent in its kind.
