Major side effects of steroid use include an increased risk of cancer, increased risk of heart and liver disease, jaundice, fluid retention, high blood pressure, changes in blood coagulation, increased risk of atherosclerosis, and obstructive sleep apnea. Why would anyone put these harmful substances into there body if the side effect could be deadly? Alex Rodriguez obviously did not know what these substances could do to you. He also wasn’t sure what he was taking because it was suggested by a relative. I intend to prove Alex Rodriguez should not be suspended from Major League Baseball for abusing the leagues drug policy.
Rodriguez should not be suspended because he used steroids from 2001-2003, before the latest suspension policy was installed. The suspensions for the drug policy when Rodriguez took the steroids were; the 1st positive test suspension is up to ten days. The 2nd positive test is a suspension for thirty days. The 3rd positive test will result in a suspension of sixty days. The 4th positive test is a one year suspension. Finally, a punishment at the discretion of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball will occur after the 5th positive test. The newest suspension policy is; the first positive test would result in a fifty game suspension. The second positive test would result in a one-hundred game suspension. The third suspension would entail a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball.
Rodriguez took Primobolan and testosterone while with the Texas Rangers from 2001-2003. While taking the steroids he averaged 52 home runs over his three years with Texas. When he was with the Seattle Mariners from 1994-2000 he only averaged 27 home runs in six years. There was obviously a drastic difference between the two statistics because of the unknown foreign substances that were introduced by Rodriguez’s cousin. Testosterone is a legal over-the-counter drug in the Dominican Republic, where “A-Rod” used to train in the off-season. That doesn’t make his actions right but he might not have known testosterone was on the list of banned substances.
“A-Rod” should not be suspended because the list was supposed to be confidential. The list contained 103 other people so it would be unfair if he was the only one suspended. If he were suspended every single person on that list must also face the same consequences. Rodriguez says he was young and being stupid when he took the illegal steroids.
This case will be ongoing throughout the coming months during the World Baseball Classic and the Major League season.
I also hope you agree that Alex Rodriguez should not be suspended for his stupid, immature actions. After I have presented this I hope you strongly agree with the statements I made.
