People who smoke should quit now because it is ruining their lives, as well as the lives of others. Smoking is dreadful to your health. And, if you quit now, you will feel much better. There are many reasons why people do not quit smoking. One is that it is extremely hard to do since nicotine is very addictive. For others, smoking is their scapegoat. For those of us who have not dealt with the struggles of trying to quit smoking, it is hard to fully understand the complications that come with it. However, with all of the information out there, we can educate people of how bad smoking really is.
For every time someone goes to grab a cigarette that is like another stab to your body. Smoking causes cancer, lung diseases, heart attacks, strokes, and other health problems. It also shows that smoking speeds up mental decline which could lead to Alzheimer’s disease. By smoking everyday you are giving your body a higher risk for these diseases. If you know you are putting yourself at risk by smoking, then why would you want to continue this bad habit? Even though an individual who smokes may only be twenty years old, by maintaining this bad habit they seem to have health problems that are associated with people ten years older than their real age. Last time I checked people these days wanted to look younger than they really are, not older.
There is no better feeling than when you have just accomplished something you have been trying so hard to do. When a person quits smoking they are succeeding their goal. They are saving themselves. Even if the individual does not know it, they are saving someone else’s life by quitting as well. Second hand smoke kills too. Imagine how much better you would feel if you quit smoking. It would be ridding your body of harmful toxins, and on a larger scale, even starting a new life.
Although someone may want to quit, one major thing is stopping them. There is nicotine in cigarettes, just like there is nicotine in tobacco. Nicotine is as addictive as heroin or cocaine. If a person smokes all the time, their body becomes dependent on the nicotine. Nicotine also gives people a high feeling that makes them feel better about themselves. Once smokers experience this feeling they continue smoking to feel that high. It is incredibly hard to quit smoking because of the nicotine, but it is indeed possible.
Those of the smokers who do try to stop, however, may get very frustrated. They may quit for only a day or two and then they give into the addiction. Another reason quitters may go back to smoking is because of the withdrawal symptoms. Some of these symptoms include dizziness, depression, anxiety, headaches, increased appetite, etc. After quitting once and then going back to smoking, people may get very frustrated. I do not blame them. Failing at the one thing you really want in life can be very disappointing.
So after reading this I hope all you smokers quit. I also hope everyone realizes how serious smoking is, and how it is affecting their health. I was always told that quitters never win. But, when it comes to smoking I will be the first to tell others to be a quitter.
