I intend to prove that marijuana should be legalized in the United States
Just recently, President Obama has made an American policy in the states of New Jersey, Minnesota, and Rhode Island that medical marijuana use is legal. Legalization of marijuana should be allowed in the U.S. for many reasons. One is for medicinal reasons. Marijuana soothes many daily aches and pains. You shouldn't have to be restricted for using a natural herb for medicinal reasons. Also, the government can tax it, and can lower the government income, and lower the rates of possession of marijuana. That means about 90% of the 700,000 Americans last year wouldn't have been arrested and jailed.
Marijuana should be used as a medicine, because scientists find that THC can be used to treat pain, inflammation, atherosclerosis, and osteoporosis, this means that if you have any kind of pain, whether it’s as serious as brain surgery, to a daily headache, Marijuana can and should be used to treat those kinds of pains. All of this is a natural way to heal those pains without euphoria, or interfering with the central nervous system.
If the government legalized and sold marijuana, they can make their income rise. They can tax the marijuana, put a legal age on it, and sell the marijuana at local convenience stores. The crime rate would go down a lot more. About 700,000 Americans were arrested for possession of marijuana. About 90% of those Americans were caught for simple possession, no trafficking or marketing. Most pot smokers use it in their private use, which means they aren’t becoming reckless and using it for recreation.
Smoking marijuana is as equal if not better than smoking tobacco or drinking alcohol. Marijuana is scientifically proven that it isn’t physically addictive, unlike tobacco. Drinking alcohol puts a worse effect to your liver than marijuana does to your brain. Marijuana shouldn’t be considered a drug, because it is impossible to over dose. Not one person has overdosed on just marijuana, in the history of the world.
As I list these facts I hope you see how marijuana isn’t a dangerous drug, and how pot should be legalized in the United States. Many famous Americans has either done or does marijuana. Some examples are president Obama, and 8 time gold medalist Michael Phelps. As you can see these successful men have completed their goals even with marijuana. These facts should be utilized by the government, and they should reconsider the prohibition of marijuana.
