Why we should have No Homework in our School Systems
Schools have been giving way too much homework over the years. It interferes with their social life, extracurricular activities, and family time. Students also cannot get the recommend sleep hours by adding homework to their busy schedules. It can interfere with them after school as well as demoting their self esteem. As a student I can say that if we do not have homework after school I would work a lot harder in school. The amount of homework given these days is way too much to give to the students within the school district.
School is a place for kids to learn and prosper to become ready to take on the hardships and obstacles of life. Many parents force their kids to push themselves beyond their extent and not have fun and only focus on school. Sure, school is a great place to socialize and learn, but the way schools have been teaching over the recent years has gotten out of hand. Students, especially in high school, have not been able to do well because of many different reasons but many of them leading down to homework. At least give kids a chance to try and learn in a suitable environment without giving them a headache. Sure there will, always be the kids that choose not to learn in school and do not try but so be it! Why punish others when only various others make the mistakes? There can be alternate solutions resolved for them. Many family trips have also been interrupted by homework overloading. I still wonder why school districts are so hard on their students.
When students get home from a long school day all they want to do is relax. Look at it this way, most students have sports and or other activities to do. They may want to hang out with friends or their families. They just got home from six hours of schooling and learning which from my experience, is not that fun. High school students wake up early against their will, go to school for roughly six hours, and then can go home; but many go to a sport and then something else afterwards. By asking my friends and other people who are engaged in a school district, I think I can speak for the majority of the school student population when I say that we do not like and do not have time for, sports, activities, family time, personal relaxation, and then on top of that, homework! It even allows them to obtain better sleep because it allows them to go to bed earlier.
The national sleep foundation states that teenagers should obtain between 6-10 hours of sleep on a regular basis and if all these adults think that homework is so vital, why are kids complaining so much? My dad, who went through all the schooling systems thirty years ago, says that the amount of homework given today is ridiculous. He said that when they went to school, they worked and worked hard, and then occasionally got some homework or a project. I believe that many teaching methods in school are not so good for the students and that the teachers just give homework to cover up for it. Speaking as a student enrolled in a high school, I can gladly admit that if I knew we would not have homework that day while in school, I would bust my butt while in school.
I feel that school systems are not taking the right direction with their teaching methods. Hey, it may even be the teachers! The reasons there should be less homework from the voices of students are endless. It does not matter that adults are more educated and think they know how to teach and learn students; we are the ones who are here and going through it! Any survey would show how homework stresses out students and causes mass disruption in their lives, and there are countless ones out there. Homework is an unnecessary factor in the school systems and only an object of suffering.
