Recent surveys taken throughout the United States show that tobacco is the most used agricultural product. Tobacco, however, is also one of the leading causes of death in the United states. Products such as cigarettes, cigars, and chewing tobacco are renown to cause cancer, but are still bought millions of times per day by consumers. Why is this? The "buzz" given off by tobacco is highly addictive, causing consumers to get stuck in a chain of smoking, and after years, those consumers usually become extremely ill. A plant much like tobacco, with similar qualities, is marijuana. Both plants give the smoker a high, only marijuana's high is slightly stronger. The main difference between these two plants is that marijuana is illegal, and tobacco, which is legal, kills over 500,000 people each and every year. Marijuana should be made legal, and tobacco should be made illegal.
Tobacco is used in many products such as cigars, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and many others. All of these tobacco products have additives, such a nicotine, tar, and over 10,000 other harmful chemicals. When these chemicals enter your body, they literally burn the tender layers of your throat and lungs, which over time causes cancer. These products to many seem like a relaxing way to relieve stress, but what it's really doing is just shortening your life, one breath at a time. The NCHS has declared that "over 71% of cancer cases were caused by tobacco products".
On the other hand, there has never been a recorded death, or fatality, from the direct use of marijuana. Marijuana, or Cannabis, is a plant that is currently illegal in the United States, but still cashes in with profits over 20,000,000 dollars every year. How is this possible? It has been proved that marijuana, although an illegal substance, can be found in every city in America. If marijuana was legal, and replaces tobacco, it could be the highest paying cash crop in history, which leaves the United States with a lot more money toward our economy. Marijuana not only produces an enjoyable high, it has sterling uses in the world of health. It can be used as a painkiller, anti-depressant, stimulant, and can also be used a help cure numerous diseases. Patients can easily be taken off Cannabis because it pertains no addictive qualities.
In conclusion, Marijuana should become legal, and sold in stores, and tobacco should be deemed illegal.Tobacco not only causes over half a million deaths each year, but it is highly addictive, and draws in millions of users every year. Marijuana, on the other hand, contains no addictive qualities, and has never been responsible for a death. Also, Marijuana can be used as more than just a stimulant, it can be used to treat numerous medical conditions.
